Breast Cancer
Screening by mammogram every 2 years is recommended for women at average risk and aged 50-69 years (A).
Clinical breast examination is not recommended as a routine screening test for women undergoing regular mammographic screening (E).
Mammographic screening is not recommended for women at average risk under 40 years of age.
All women should be advised to be aware of the normal look and feel of their breasts and to report any new or unusual changes to their GP without delay.
The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends screening mammography, with or without clinical breast examination (CBE), every 1-2 years for women aged 40 and older. (B)

Epidemiology
The lifetime risk of breast cancer in the general population is between 1:12 and 1:8. For those in the increased risk group, it is between 1:8 and 1:4. For those in the high risk group it is between 1:4 and 1:2 or possibly higher if the woman is shown to have a high risk mutation.
